Poker Hands

Poker hand is a combination of 5 cards constructed by a player according to a set of predetermined rules.

The winning hand is the highest hand as compared to a standard hand ranking system adoptd in all variants of the poker game.

Here are the common poker hand categories listed in descending order:

  • Straight Flush, a poker hand that contains 5 cards in sequence, all of the same suit.
  • Four of a Kind (or Quads), a poker hand that contains all 4 cards of one rank and any other card.
  • Full House (or full boat), a poker hand that contains 3 matching cards of one rank and 2 matching cards of another rank.
  • Flush, a poker hand where all 5 cards are of the same suit, but not in sequence.
  • Straight, a poker hand that contains 5 cards of sequential rank in 2 different suits.
  • Three of a Kind (or trips or set), a poker hand that contains 3 cards of the same rank, and 2 other unidentical cards.
  • Two Pair, a poker hand that contains 2 pairs, each consisting of 2 cards of the same rank.
  • One Pair, a poker hand that contains 2 cards of same rank, in addition to 3 different cards.
  • High Card (or no-pair), is a poker hand made of any 5 cards.
